Students Attend FBLA State Leadership Conference

This weekend, 5 students, Danny Priebe, Asher Applegate, Brendan Wilson, Madelyn Sapp, and Kensington Wolf attended the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Springfield, Missouri. They attended contests and workshops that featured guest speakers and useful life skills. Some learned vital public speaking techniques while others learned how to fill out job applications. The students also visited a college fair where they had the ability to speak with many colleges about their business programs. Schuyler Students Shine In Math Club Competition

The second annual Elementary Math Club recently concluded for the year. Mrs. Veatch, the club sponsor, invited fifth-and sixth-grade students interested in learning and having fun with math to join this year’s club. Nine students stepped up to the challenge and met twice a week during March. Time was spent playing a variety of math games and working through centers, as well as completing practice problems to prepare for competition. On the final day, seven of the nine club members competed in an on-demand math competition on Chromebooks. The competition was sponsored by the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics.…

Schuyler County Boys Take Third, Girls Seventh At Scotland County Relays; Oliver, Applegate Lead Strong Showing

Schuyler County turned in a solid performance Thursday at the Scotland County Relays, with the boys finishing third overall with 90 points and the girls placing seventh with 34.5 points. The Rams were led by a standout effort from Mason Oliver, who captured the 400-meter title and added a win in the long jump, while Asher Applegate delivered strong distance performances with a runner-up finish in the 1600 and a top-five finish in the 800. Rams Claim Fourth Straight Lewis & Clark Scholar Bowl Title

NORTH SHELBY — The Schuyler County Rams Scholar Bowl team captured its fourth consecutive Lewis & Clark Conference championship Saturday, March 14, at North Shelby, capping a dominant day of competition. Schuyler entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed after going 5-1 in the regular season, tying Knox and Paris for first place. The Rams earned the top seed by averaging 363.33 points per game, narrowly edging Knox (361.67) and Paris (303.33). Schuyler County Boys Win District Championship Over Scotland County Tigers

By David Sharp Schuyler County and Scotland County met for the fifth time this season, this time to determine the boys championship of Class 2, District 6 basketball at Schuyler County. The Rams held a rebounding advantage in a physical game. Tyson Droste led three Rams in double figures with 15 points for a 67-51 Schuyler County win. Schuyler R-1 Board Approves Flooring Bid, Staffing Additions and Mileage Rate Increase

QUEEN CITY, Mo. — The Schuyler R-1 Board of Education met in regular session Jan. 21 and approved several items, including personnel changes, a flooring project, and an increase in mileage reimbursement, while hearing reports from district administrators on attendance, academic progress and facility improvements. The board approved the hiring of Bobby Bair as a custodian. In addition, several individuals were added to the substitute list: Latisha Snider and Joseph Crawford as teacher substitutes; Lisa Nagel and Natasha Nolte as bus driver substitutes; and Kathleen Miller as a paraprofessional substitute. Former Schuyler Teacher Illustrates New Edition of “The Pretend Princess”

By Emily Bontrager Tiffany Harris has been illustrating children’s books for years, and her latest project is the newly released second edition of The Pretend Princess by Iowa author Lynne Roers. Harris, who lives near Moulton, Iowa, earned an English degree from Truman State University and a master’s in teaching from Purdue University. She taught in the Schuyler County School District for about 14 years, spending her first six years as an English teacher before moving into the art classroom, where she worked until her retirement last year. QUEEN CITY, Mo. — Schuyler R-1 Schools commemorated Veterans Day with a heartfelt assembly on Nov. 11, drawing community members, students and honored guests together in a celebration of service and sacrifice. Veterans and their spouses were welcomed with coffee and refreshments prior to the program, which was organized by teacher Ryan Kaden. Applegate Represents Schuyler County at State Cross Country Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Schuyler County’s Asher Applegate proudly represented the Rams at the MSHSAA Class 1 State Cross Country Championships, held Nov. 7–8 at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia. Applegate finished the 5K course in 18:51.9, competing among more than 170 of Missouri’s top small-school runners. The senior’s performance placed him solidly in the middle of the talented Class 1 field, marking a strong conclusion to his high school cross country career. The race was won by Kellen Robertson of School of the Ozarks, who took the state title with a time of 16:16.0.
