QUEEN CITY, Mo. — Schuyler County R-1 High School celebrated the Class of 2026 during commencement exercises Sunday, May 17, at the school in Queen City. The ceremony opened with the processional, followed by welcome and introductions from Superintendent Shawn Corbett. Diane McClain presented academic honors, Stacy O’Haver presented scholarships, Colin Oliver gave the salutatorian address and Jaxson Kaden gave the valedictorian address. Schuyler County is one win away from the final four. Behind a dominant complete-game pitching performance from Gage Brownell and a steady offensive attack, the Rams powered past Silex 9-3 Monday, May 25, in a Class 2 sectional baseball game. The victory sends Schuyler County into the Class 2 quarterfinal round Wednesday against Eugene. Brownell set the tone from the mound, striking out 11 batters while allowing five hits and three runs over seven innings. CENTRALIA, Mo. — Schuyler County qualified two athletes for the state track and field meet Saturday, May 16, at the MSHSAA Class 1 Sectional 2 meet at Centralia High School. Mason Oliver won the boys long jump with a leap of 6.64 meters. Deacon Schoonover advanced in two throwing events, placing second in the discus at 46.23 meters and second in the shot put at 15.75 meters. The top four finishers in each event advanced to state.

By David Sharp Bradley University bound Gage Brownell turned in a one hit, 18 strikeout complete game performance on the mound, leading Schuyler County (19-3) to an 11-0 victory over Brashear/Novinger (10- 5) in non conference varsity baseball action at Brashear. The marquis matchup game took a sad turn when Schuyler County and Brashear/Novinger players and fans observed a moment of silence for Schuyler County junior Casey Starrett and long time Brashear teacher and sports booster James Scudder before the first pitch.
