Oliver, Schoonover Win District Titles For Schuyler County At Class 2 District 3 Meet

SHELBINA, Mo. — Schuyler County came away with three district championships Saturday, May 9, at the MSHSAA Class 2 District 3 track and field meet at South Shelby High School.

Mason Oliver won the boys long jump with a mark of 6.41 meters, while Deacon Schoonover swept Schuyler County’s throwing titles. Schoonover won the boys shot put with a throw of 15.7 meters and placed second in the discus at 45.02 meters.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to sectionals next weekend. Oliver and Schoonover secured Schuyler County’s sectional berths, while several teammates finished just outside qualifying position.

Asher Applegate narrowly missed advancing in the boys 1,600-meter run, placing fifth in 4:53.38. Schuyler County’s boys 4×400-meter relay also finished fifth in 3:45.04, one spot from a sectional berth. Tyson Droste added a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 52.88.

On the girls side, Jesslyn Herring led Schuyler County on the track with a ninth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.03. Greta Schoonover had the Rams’ top girls throwing finish, placing 10th in the shot put at 8.76 meters.
