Mary Leila (Byrn) Lonis Forsythe, 91, of Lancaster, Missouri passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home on Thursday, January 28, 2021.

The daughter of James Orvin and Jacie (Peterson) Byrn, she was born in rural Downing, Missouri, on June 7, 1929. She was a graduate of the Downing High School in Downing, Missouri. On July 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leonard Lonis, and to this union two children were born, Larry and Terrie. On October 24, 1999, she was united in marriage to Eugene Welsh Forsythe in Glenwood, Missouri.

Mary is survived by her children, Larry Lonis of Marceline, Missouri, and Terrie Starbuck and husband, Mark, of Queen City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Cole Starbuck and wife, Lacie, of Columbia, Missouri, Jodi Roberts and husband, Travis, of Lancaster, Missouri, Clara Lonis of Marceline, Missouri, Jesse Lonis of Macon, Missouri, and Keith Lonis of Columbia, Missouri; several great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and other family members.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leonard Lonis and Eugene Welsh Forsythe on December 21, 2017; and one brother at an early age.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri. She was also employed with Hollister Incorporated in Kirksville, Missouri, which she retired from.

Mary and Eugene were members of the Good Sam’s Club for several years, which they enjoyed as long as their health permitted.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, northwest of Glenwood, Missouri, with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri, officiating. Pallbearers were family members. Memorials have been established for the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
