Orvel Thompson August 9, 1941 to June 22, 2020

Orvel Thompson, 78, of Greentop, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 22, 2020, at his home.
The son of Ernest and Bertha (McKinney) Thompson, he was born August 9, 1941, in Cowan, Tennessee. On September 13, 1961, in Tullahoma, Tennessee, Orvel was united in marriage to Carol Ann Clavier, who preceded him in death on December 10, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Eva Sherrill, Edna Brazier, and Syble Trelinski; and two brothers Rufus and William Thompson.
Orvel is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Cynthia Thompson of Lancaster, Missouri, and Jason and Heather Thompson of Greentop, Missouri; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Murray McCoy of Unionville, Missouri, and Julia and Joe Burke of Hebron, Indiana; one brother, Uel Thompson of Lake Station, Indiana; one sister, Ethel Weitz of Tullahoma, Tennessee; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, as well as his special friend and companion, Edna Green, of Columbia, Missouri.
Orvel was employed by Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights, Illinois for forty years until retiring. He and Carol moved to Greentop, Missouri, in 1999 to make his home.
Orvel was a member of Bethel Community Church and of the Eagles, Elks, and Moose Lodges.
It was Orvel’s wish to be cremated and to have his ashes interred at a later date in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Family will receive friends, during a public visitation on Saturday, June 27, 2020, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Orvel may be made to the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, Missouri 63501.
