Rick Fischer

Rick Fischer, 66, of Memphis, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo.
Rick was a graduate of Wyaconda High School and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was one of the original employees of KMEM Radio, along with Dave Boden, when the station first went on the air. Rick worked there for 36 years until his health declined and he retired on December 31, 2017.
During his time at KMEM, Rick wore many hats. He served as program director, hosted the morning shows “General Store” and “Coffee Break,” and was the color commentator alongside Andy Middleton for Clark County Indians broadcasts. He was also a familiar voice and face at many fairs, parades, the KMEM Country Showdown, and other community events.
Rick met many celebrities during his career, including country music stars and even shook hands with President Bill Clinton during a train stop. He and his wife, Teresa, also played Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus each year at Christmas gatherings, something they both greatly enjoyed.
Rick was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Missouri Tigers. However, his greatest love was his wife, Teresa, whom he married on March 1, 1987. She preceded him in death on June 18, 2019. Rick often spoke fondly of their travels and cherished her memory until his final days.
He is survived by his twin brother, Ron (Deb) Fischer; stepdaughter, Pam (Wes) Jensen of Bloomfield, Iowa; two grandsons, Marcus Jensen (Dakota) and children of Moulton, Iowa, and Matthew Jensen (Cassie & Jada) of Bloomfield, Iowa. Rick also leaves behind a host of friends—he never met a stranger, and no one ever forgot him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Rick donated his body to science. Memorials may be made to the Memphis Community Players and sent to Box 256, Memphis, MO 63555.
