JUDY KAY (SCHUCHMAN) CHILDRESS 

November 30, 1944 – February 20, 2025 

Judy Kay (Schuchman) Childress, 80 of Downing, Missouri passed away at her home on Thursday, February 20, 2025. 

The daughter of Harvey Jacob and Lou Evelyn (Erwin) Schuchman, she was born on November 30, 1944 in Downing, Missouri. She grew up in the Memphis, Missouri area and attended Memphis School. 

Judy was united in marriage to Richard Keith Henry in May 1962 and to this union three children were born, Randy, Beverly and Melissa. She was later united in marriage to Jack Childress on December 21, 1990 in Memphis, Missouri. 

Survivors include her husband, Jack Childress of Downing, Missouri; her children, Randy Henry and wife, Patrice of Leavenworth, Kansas and Beverly Young of Shawnee, Kansas; 2 step children, Chris Childress and wife, Billie of Memphis, Missouri and Kelle Gunnell and husband, Bill of Downing, Missouri; 7 grandchildren, Korey Henry and wife, Crystal of Lacrosse, Virginia, Christine Dolan and husband, Robert of Piper, Kansas, Catherine Henry of Queens, New York, Kala Seibel and husband, Logan of St. Genevieve, Missouri, Kara Vitale and husband, Wade of St. Genevieve, Missouri, Kyle Childress and wife, Olivia of Memphis, Missouri and Shane Gunnell of Downing, Missouri; numerous great grandchildren; 1 sister, Sandra McCollum and husband, Duane of Milan, Missouri; 1 sister-in-law, Sue Myers and husband, Mike of Memphis, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. 

Judy is preceded in death by her parents;1 daughter, Melissa Jo Henry on October 20, 2022 and 1 brother, Ray Schuchman. 

Judy attended the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri when her health permitted. Judy worked at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri, for approximately 11 years. The residents who had Judy as a caregiver enjoyed the time Judy would spend with them, and they looked forward to her daily visits. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the Jack Childress residence in Downing, Missouri. The Celebration of Life will be a “Potluck” and the family has requested to RSVP with a call or text to 913-710-7849 as to how many people and what covered dish you will be bringing. The meat will be provided by the family. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
