Dwight Harold Ayer, 89 of Kirksville, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024 at The Pines in Kirksville, Missouri, where he had been residing since October 2022. The son of Glen O. and Lillie May “Patsy” (Coffman) Ayer, he was born on September 18, 1934, along with his twin brother, Dwayne in Lancaster, Missouri. Dwight graduated in 1952 from the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri. Following graduation, he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Tallman on August 1, 1954 and to this union one daughter, Connie Ellen and one son, Stanley Dwight were born.
Dwight attended Northeast Missouri State University, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education. Dwight taught Math for 30 years at Pattonville High School in Maryland Heights, Missouri. During his summers off from teaching, Dwight ran firework stands in the parking lot of Modernaire restaurant in Lancaster, Missouri and from a tent on the Missouri/Iowa border.
Dwight and Ann lived in St. Charles, Missouri until they retired in the 1990’s and moved to Lake Ozark, Missouri. Dwight and Ann became snowbirds in 2001 and spent the winter in McAllen, Texas until 2020. Dwight was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Survivors include his brother, Dwayne (Jan) Ayer of Freeport, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Vena Tallman of Lancaster, Missouri and Mindell Ayer of Bonham, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, former neighbors and church members of Lake Ozark, Missouri.
Dwight is preceded in death by his wife, Ann; his parents; his parents-in-law, Charles Austin and Wilma (Butts) Tallman; brother, Max Ayer; an infant sister, Marilyn; daughter, Connie Ayer Rodery; son, Stanley Ayer; brothers-in-law, Tim Mullenix, Eldon Tallman, Bryce Tallman, Gordon Ford and Bob Mobley; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Mullenix, Berniece Ford, Martha Tallman, Ann Tallman and Joyce Mobley and a grand dog, Murphy.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Jeff White officiating. Music will be special selections of “Shall We Gather At The River” and “The Lord’s Prayer”. Pallbearers will be Chuck Tallman, Steve Tallman, Justin Tallman, Walter Ford, James Ford, Kerby Ayer, Jeff Ayer, Patrick Tallman and Curtis Tallman. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri.
