MARTHA PEARL (YEARNS) SCHMITTER

Martha Pearl (Yearns) Schmitter, 86 of Lancaster, Missouri passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, Missouri on Friday March 15, 2024. 

The daughter of Harold William and Mabel Pearl (Aldridge) Yearns, she was born on April 6, 1937 in rural Queen City. Martha attended Brushy School where she graduated 8th grade. She then attended and graduated in 1955 from the Queen City High School in Queen City, Missouri. She was united in marriage to John Junior Schmitter on September 22, 1955 at the Lutheran parsonage in Queen City, Missouri. 

Martha is survived by her siblings, Rose Mary Kollaszar and husband, Dave of Queen City, Missouri, Clifford Yearns and wife, Nina of Downing, Missouri, Leroy Yearns and wife, Terri of Queen City, Missouri, Eugene Yearns of Queen City, Missouri and Earl Dean Yearns and wife, Kathy of Queen City, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and other family members. 

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Harold William Yearns on April 9, 1995 and her mother, Mabel Pearl (Aldridge) Yearns on March 3, 1979; husband, John Junior Schmitter on April 13, 2008; one brother, Otto Yearns on November 25, 1994; two nephews, Billy Joe Yearns on July 11, 2018 and Dwayne Yearns on March 15, 2018; seven sisters-in-law, Nikki Lee Yearns on May 3, 2018, Geneva Yearns on January 20, 2021, Mary Ann Yearns, Helen Manning, Mary Louise Webster and husband, Eugene, Avis Farrell and husband, Frankie and Hildred Schmitter and husband, Paul Edwin and one brother-in-law, Loyd Manning. 

Martha was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aide group and attended as long as her health and weather permitted. Martha was employed for 15 years as a nurse’s aide at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Pastor Bill Iammatteo- Code, of Mystic, Iowa officiating. Music will be special selections of “How Great Thou Art” and “One Day At A Time”. Pallbearers will be Jason Schmitter, Henry Schubert, Terry Wheeler, Dale Yearns, Robby Yearns and Roger Turner. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Memorials have been established for the family.
