Schuyler County made its mark at the MSHSAA Class 1 – District 3 meet on Saturday in Vandalia, with Asher Applegate earning a coveted spot at the state championships after a strong performance in the boys’ race.
Applegate placed 21st overall with a time of 18:51.72, finishing safely within the top 30 to qualify for the Class 1 State Meet next Saturday in Columbia. He ran a composed and determined race, pacing himself well through the early miles and holding off a surge of competitors in the final stretch. His consistent season now culminates on Missouri’s biggest stage.
Just outside the qualifying cutoff, teammate Jaxson Kaden ran a solid race of his own, finishing 32nd in 19:42.94. While Kaden’s performance didn’t advance him to state, it highlighted the depth and competitive drive within Schuyler County’s program.
Applegate will represent the Rams at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course on November 8, where he’ll compete against the best in Class 1 and aim to cap off his season with a strong finish.
