Shawn Corbett has been named the new superintendent of the Schuyler County R-1 school district, bringing more than two decades of experience in education, administration, and athletics to the role.
Corbett, who is currently the assistant principal at Kirksville R-III High School, has served in that position since 2020. His career in the Kirksville R-III School District spans nearly 20 years, including seven years in the Central Office (2013-2020) as transportation director, facilities director, and school safety coordinator. Prior to that, he served as assistant principal at Kirksville R-III Middle School from 2007 to 2013 and as a physical education and health teacher at the middle school from 2005 to 2007.
His experience also extends to higher education and athletics. Corbett spent six years as a coach and instructor at the University of Missouri S&T (1999-2005), as well as coaching roles at Hannibal High School (1998-1999), Northern Michigan University (1995-1998), Southeast Missouri State University (1994- 1995), and Truman State University (1993- 1994). He also played professional football for the San Diego Chargers in 1993.
Corbett holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeast Missouri State University and advanced degrees in school administration, including a Master’s and Specialist degree, from William Woods University.
Corbett will officially begin his tenure as superintendent on July 1, 2024.
Current Superintendent Kyle Windy will serve as Assistant Superintendent for the 2025/26 school year, after which another administrator will replace him, with a job title yet to be finalized.
