Downing Approves New Sewer Pump, Awards Mowing And Rock Bids
DOWNING — The Downing Board of Aldermen approved the purchase of a new sewer pump and awarded bids for rock hauling and cemetery mowing during its regular meeting Monday, April 6.
Mayor Alan Garrett called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Aldermen Bob Garrett, Daniel Beeler, Ray Bange and Allen Middleton were present, along with Water/Wastewater Operator Tad Anderson, contract operator Eric Bowens and City Clerk Carol Dryden.
In the water and wastewater report, the city reported water loss at 17 percent. Officials said the lagoon was discharged during March and closed at the start of April, though it may need to be reopened if rainy weather continues.
Tad Anderson also reported on street maintenance, saying road blading and ditch cleaning have continued as weather permits.
Under old business, the board noted a new door had been installed, though more work remains. Board members also discussed whether to repair an old sewer pump or purchase a new one. The board voted unanimously to buy a new pump.
In new business, aldermen reviewed bids for cemetery mowing and rock hauling. The board awarded the rock hauling bid to Matt Brewer and the mowing bid to Jeff Smith, both by unanimous vote.
The board also discussed Sunshine Law training and agreed City Clerk Carol Dryden should attend because she works with those matters frequently.
Before adjourning, officials commented on the return of snow Monday morning after recent spring weather, while also noting the moisture was needed.
The meeting adjourned at 7 p.m.
