Schuyler County Makes a Statement at La Plata Invitational: Droste, Akers, and Relay Teams Lead the Charge
La Plata, MO — April 7, 2025
The Schuyler County Rams brought fire and focus to the La Plata Invitational on April 7, turning in one of their most well-rounded performances of the season. Leading the charge was Tyson Droste, who delivered an eye-catching triple — 1st in the 400-meter dash (56.77), 2nd in the 200 meters (24.72), and 2nd in the triple jump (11.52m). In the field, Acen Akers powered his way to a 1st place finish in shot put (12.76m) and 3rd in discus (39.03m), dominating the throws ring. The boys’ 4×400-meter relay team added another big win with a 1st place finish in 3:55.93, while the 4×100 squad also impressed, grabbing 4th overall. These standout efforts set the tone for a day filled with personal bests, top-10 finishes, and promising performances across the roster.
Girls Highlights
Mirianna Sly took on a full slate of events, showing her range and tenacity. She placed 13th in the 100-meter dashwith a time of 16.04 seconds, while also competing in the long jump (14th, 3.07m) and triple jump (14th, 6.71m).
In the throwing events, Kelsey Buckallew turned in the top result for the Lady Rams, earning 4th in shot put with a mark of 8.24 meters, and 7th in discus (19.81m). Grace Hoffmeyer added solid support, finishing 9th in discus(19.51m), 10th in shot put (6.83m), and 16th in javelin (11.04m).
Boys Highlights
Alongside Droste’s standout triple crown, Mason Oliver delivered big with a 3rd place finish in the 200 meters(25.05), 5th in the 400 (59.51), and 2nd in long jump (5.66m). His all-around performance was a major boost to Schuyler’s team score.
Asher Applegate once again proved his strength in distance events, finishing 4th in both the 800 (2:22.79) and 1600 meters (5:16.67). Teammates James MaComber (7th in the 1600, 5:49.64) and Jaxson Kaden (9th in the 800, 2:34.50) gave the Rams a solid pack of distance runners.
Brendan Wilson added points in the hurdles, placing 9th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 56.33 seconds.
In the relays, the Rams kept up their momentum:
The 4×100 relay team clocked 51.80 seconds, finishing 4th overall.
The 4×400 team stole the spotlight, racing to 1st place in 3:55.93.
Joshua Vincent cleared 1.39 meters in high jump to claim 7th place, contributing to Schuyler’s solid field event presence.
In the throws, Acen Akers was unmatched in the shot put with a winning toss of 12.76 meters, and followed it up with a 3rd place finish in discus (39.03m). Daniel Flores added 9th in shot put (9.47m) and 18th in javelin (20.52m), while Brandon Burns placed 12th in discus (17.28m) and 22nd in javelin (15.98m).
