Maddie Fowler scored three Schuyler County runs during a September 14, 2023 extra inning 5-4 win at Knox County (2-4). Fowler drew a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth inning. Schuyler County (3-9) won by a 5-4 final score in nine innings.
Ava Akers followed with a Lady Ram single. Maddie Fowler stole second base and advanced to third on an error. Fowler attempted to score but was caught in a rundown. Knox County was unable to execute the play, allowing Fowler to score the eventual winning run on a throwing error.
“We’ve come a long way since the beginning of the beginning of the season,” Schuyler County senior Raina Small said. “We were really struggling at the beginning, but now we are starting to get our vibe back.”
“We are starting to play better together as a team,” Raina Small said. “I know I was anxious as a pitcher. I just have to stay calm on the mound. I knew I had the girls backing me up, so I felt confident about it.”
Knox County took a two run lead when Lillie Penn reached Small for a two out, two run double and a2-0 lead after two full innings. Schuyler County answered Sienna Lovecamp led off the Lady Ram third with a walk.
Maddie Fowler singled after Hailey Roberts bunted Lovecamp to second base. Ava Akers hit the ball to Knox County third baseman Myleigh Miller who fired to catcher Emma Browning to retire Lovecamp at the plate for the second out of the inning.
Maddie Fowler score on a wild pitch. Hanna Farris plated Akers with a game tying RBI hit. Schuyler County took advantage of a one out walk to Ava Akers in the top of the fifth the inning. Florence Lusher doubled Akers home for a 3-2 lead. Emma Browning made another nice defensive play behind the plate, catching a short foul pop up for the final out.
Knox County got their first two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth but failed to capitalize. The Lady Eagles knotted the score at three when Brynn Schwieter drew a sixth inning leadoff walk and scored on Abby Becker’s two out RBI hit.
Ava Akers robbed Knox County senior Bryston Miller of a hit with a sixth inning ending defensive play at third base.
Maddie Fowler led off the Ram seventh inning with a hit. Schuyler County bunted the runner up then took advantage of a wild pitch for a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning.
Knox County answered when Lillie Penn singled with one out in the Eagle seventh. Myleigh Miller came through with a game tying two out RBI hit. Each team threatened with a second and third jam in their eighth inning but failed to score.
Myleigh Miller gave Knox County a chance with a two out hit in the bottom of the ninth inning. Raina Small struck out the final batter of the game for the 5-4 Schuyler County win in nine innings.
Schuyler County scored five runs on seven hits. Maddie Fowler was 2-3 with three runs scored. Ava Akers scored twice for the Lady Rams. Raina Small pitched the nine inning distance with nine strikeouts and two walks on 12 hits. Two of the four KCHS runs were earned.
Knox County scored four times on 12 hits with seven runners left on base. Abby Becker was 4-4 at bat with an RBI and a run scored. Lillie Penn was 2-4 with a run scored and two batted in. Myleigh Miller and Kennedy Parrish had two KCHS hits each. Miller drove in a run.
Agnes Reel pitched the nine inning distance and took the loss. The returning all region senior pitcher struck out 14 batters with five walks on seven hits. Four of the five Lady Ram runs were earned.
