CALL TO ORDER – 6:00 p.m.

President Jennifer Pantry called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF AMENDED AGENDA – 6:00 p.m.-MACC dual credit agreement approval and move work study request up. Shannon Smith moved, seconded by Wanda Homer to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried 7-0.

CONSENT AGENDA – 6:01 p.m.

a. Approval of minutes of previous meeting (June 16, 2020)

b. Approval of bills

Mike Scheib moved, seconded by Kevin Wheeler to approve the minutes of the June 16, 2020 meeting. Motion carried 7-0.

FINANCIAL REPORT – 6:04 p.m.

Total revenue is $535,189 and total expenses are $1,114,673 for the month of June 2020.

Shannon Smith moved, seconded by Wanda Homer to approve the financial report. Motion carried 7-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT TIME – 6:17 p.m.

A thank you note was received from Jenny Kaden.

OLD BUSINESS – 6:19 p.m. – none

a. Elementary counseling evaluation

Wanda Homer moved, seconded by Andy Akers to approve the elementary counseling evaluation. Motion carried 7-0.

NEW BUSINESS – 6:21 p.m.

a. Work study request – Wade Cooper made a request to work for his Dad for the AOE program. Taren White made a request to work for his Grandpa for the SBE program. Taren was present to answer any questions, as was AOE supervisor Coley Hanes and SBE supervisor Sharon Priebe. Mr. Hanes also made a request for Axel Riffle to work for his Grandpa.

Kevin Wheeler moved, seconded by Andy Akers to approve the AOE work request of Wade Cooper. Motion carried 7-0.

Kevin Wheeler moved, seconded by Mike Scheib to approve the SBE work request of Taren White. Motion carried 7-0.

Kevin Wheeler moved, seconded by Mike Scheib to approve the work request of Axel Riffle. Motion carried 7-0.

b. Jerry VanWye –

Parent, Jerry VanWye spoke how addictive vaping is and would like the school to do more to address the issue. Administration does suspend any student caught vaping. There are vaping detectors that can be purchased, however they are usually damaged by students. The school will be working with the health department and School Resource Officer to get information out to parents and continue promoting a healthy lifestyle to students. With vaping not just being a school problem, parents/guardians are encouraged to get involved and take proper action with their children and support school policies.

c. Moberly Area Community College dual credit agreement.

Mike Scheib moved, seconded by Kevin Wheeler to approve the MACC Dual Credit Agreement for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried 7-0.

d. Schuyler R-1 authorized representative, director, and coordinator list.

Kirk Newland moved, seconded by Wanda Homer to approve the authorized representative, director, and coordinator list with changing Foster/Homeless and ELL programs to Mrs. Wayman. Motion carried 7-0.

e. Approval of resignation

Mike Scheib moved, seconded by Shannon Smith to approve the resignation of ELIZABETH FOSTER. Motion carried 7-0.

f. Substitutes for 2020-2021

Mike Scheib moved, seconded by Andy Akers to approve the substitute list for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried 6-0-1.

g. Approval to revise/update policies 0342 and 0410

Kevin Wheeler moved, seconded by Wanda Homer to approve policy 0342. Motion carried 7-0.

Kirk Newland moved, seconded by Kevin Wheeler to approve policy 0410. Motion carried 7-0.

h. Little League agreement

Mike Scheib moved, seconded by Kirk Newland to approve to amend the agreement with Little League for the 2020-2021 school year (Added Activities Director and Coaches to #4). Motion carried 7-0.

Kevin Wheeler moved, seconded by Andy Akers to approve the amended agreement with Little League for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried 6-1.

i. Approve to hire elementary teacher and paraprofessionals

Kevin Wheeler moved, seconded by Andy Akers to approve the hire of LUCINDA PERRILLES as a teacher (BA, Step 1) for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried 7-0.

Shannon Smith moved, seconded by Wanda Homer to approve the hire of JACKIE SCHUBERT as a paraprofessional for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried 7-0.

Wanda Homer moved, seconded by Kevin Wheeler to approve the hire of LAYNEE SCHUBERT as a paraprofessional for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried 7-0.

1. Professional Development Days – August 18, 19, 20, 2020

2. Schuyler R-1 open house – August 20, 2020, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

3. 7th grade orientation-August 20th 6:30 – 7:00 pm

4. First day of school – August 25, 2020

k. August meeting will be August 20 at 6:00 p.m.

Tax Levy Hearing – August 20, 2020 – 6:00 p.m.

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL – Katie Wayman – 7:06 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL REPORT – Kyle Windy – 7:06 p.m.

SPECIAL SERVICES DIRECTOR – Raven Weaver – 7:06 p.m. – absent

All administrators are working to have everything ready for the new school year.

SUPERINTENDENT – Steve Carvajal – 7:07 p.m.

Graduation went well, summer maintenance is continuing, the bus garage is being remodeled, hands free water filling stations, sinks, and toilets are being installed through out the school district. New lighting with LED lights will be installed in the next month. The new weight room is complete.

Coley Hanes has qualified for the next round and being in the top 50 for 18 prizes totaling $1,000,000 for the Ag program. He will find out in October.

Mr. Carvajal talked about all the necessary precautions for COVID-19 that will be taken when school begins. The newly approved AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) was discussed.

Approval of previous closed minutes (June 16, 2020)

Kevin Wheeler moved, seconded by Shannon Smith to approve the closed minutes of the June 16, 2020 meeting. Motion carried 7-0 by roll call vote: Kirk Newland – yes; Shannon Smith – yes; Andy Akers – yes; Mike Scheib – yes; Kevin Wheeler – yes; Wanda Homer – yes; and Jennifer Pantry – yes.

ADJOURNMENT – 7:34 p.m.

Mike Scheib moved, seconded by Shannon Smith to adjourn. Motion carried 7-0.
