Bluegrass Royalty Returns Home for Schuyler County Celebrations

Schuyler County welcomed bluegrass royalty Sunday as Rhonda Vincent and her brother, Darrin Vincent, returned home to celebrate two special occasions.

Rhonda and Darrin Vincent are noted as the only brother and sister to hold separate Grand Ole Opry memberships. They performed Sunday with their mother, Carolyn Vincent; their youngest brother, Brian Vincent; and other musicians.

The Vincents were in Schuyler County to sing at the 100th birthday celebration for Leona “Toadie” Ledford at Greentop Park. Ledford has been a longtime friend of the Vincent family.

Later, they performed for the 50th anniversary of the Schuyler County Nursing Home. The event carried extra meaning for the family, as Carolyn Vincent has worked there as a hairdresser for 30 years.

Rhonda Vincent is one of the most decorated artists in bluegrass music. She won the International Bluegrass Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year award seven consecutive years, from 2000 to 2006, and later won a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album for All The Rage — In Concert Volume One.

Darrin Vincent built a respected career in bluegrass before stepping to center stage. He toured for more than a decade with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, earning Grammy Awards along the way. In 2007, he and Jamie Dailey formed Dailey & Vincent, a duo known for tight, complementary vocal harmonies. The group has earned multiple IBMA Awards and Grammy nominations.

Rhonda and Darrin frequently perform with their mother, Carolyn Vincent, and credit both her and their late father, Johnny Vincent, with inspiring their love of bluegrass music.

Before Sunday’s performances, the family also attended services at their home church, Greentop Community Church. Rhonda and Darrin both grew up in Greentop and attended Schuyler R-1 schools.
