Schuyler County Nursing Home Celebrates 50 Years of Caring July 12

The Schuyler County Nursing Home will celebrate a significant milestone this summer as it marks 50 years of serving residents and families throughout northeast Missouri.

The community is invited to attend the 50th anniversary celebration on Sunday, July 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schuyler County Nursing Home, 1306 U.S. Highway 63 in Queen City, MO. The evening will honor five decades of compassionate care while bringing together community members for an evening of free entertainment.

The event will take place outdoors, with the shelter house reserved for nursing home residents. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

The celebration begins at 5:00 p.m. with a performance by the Kirksville Circus, featuring juggling, hoops, aerial acts, stilt walkers, clowns, face painters, a violin player, and a unicorn act.

Food vendors for the evening include The Tator Wagon, Rae’s Home Cooking, and The Ice Cream Truck.

At 7:00 p.m., nationally known bluegrass performer Rhonda Vincent will take the stage for a special hometown performance.

Rose Padget, Activity Director for the Schuyler County Nursing Home said Vincent’s appearance makes the celebration even more meaningful.

“She is coming home to celebrate Ms. Toady Ledford of Greentop 100th birthday and graciously accepted to come and perform free of charge after the birthday celebration, along with her mother, Carolyn Vincent. Carolyn also celebrates her 50th anniversary as a hairdresser as she began working at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in July of 1976.”

Following Vincent’s performance, the evening will conclude with a fireworks display made possible through donations from The Outlet, Fireworks Land, Robs Fireworks, and Shelton Fireworks.

Local businesses and community members have also contributed to the celebration in other ways. Aunt Amy’s Balloon Party, owned by Schuyler County native Amy Starbuck, will provide a balloon arch, stage columns, and balloon animal twisting for attendees.

The Schuyler County Nursing Home officially opened in July 1976 and has served generations of area families ever since.

“50 years for a Residential Care Facility is an accomplishment in itself in this day in age where healthcare and state regulations make it hard to keep the facility operating,” Padget said.

She said community support has played a vital role in the nursing home’s success over the past five decades.

“Supporting with tax appropriations, donations for the residents and Activities department have always been tremendous.”

Organizers hope the anniversary celebration serves not only as entertainment, but as an opportunity to recognize everyone who has been part of the nursing home’s history.

“The events are free to the public,” Padget stated.

“We want to see the community come together to celebrate all those who have worked at this facility the past 50 years and the residents who have resided and passed on, to remember them.”

Parking for the event will be available at the Queen City School parking lot, where shuttle service will transport guests to and from the nursing home throughout the evening. Everyone is invited to come out to celebrate and enjoy the free entertainment!
