Downing Board Reviews Water, Missouri Street Access

DOWNING, Mo. — The Downing Board of Aldermen reviewed water, street and access issues during its regular meeting July 6.

Mayor Alan Garrett presided over the meeting. Aldermen Daniel Beeler, Ray Range, Bob Garrett and Allen Middleton were present, along with Water/Wastewater Operator Tad Anderson, contract operator Eric Bowens and City Clerk Carol Dryden.

The board approved the agenda, minutes from the previous meeting and payment of bills.

In the water and wastewater report, Anderson said there were no problems with the water system. Water loss was reported at 2.8%, with several meter replacements helping reduce loss. The lagoon remains closed, so samples are not being taken at this time.

Anderson also reported that recent rains had left roads in poor condition. He has been working on road maintenance and is preparing to add rock to roads where needed.

Under old business, the board noted it is still waiting for demolition work to begin and for a new pump for the lift station. NEMR has completed fiber work in town.

In new business, the board discussed Missouri Street being blocked and possible options for creating road access for residents.

The board also praised the Downing Fire Department for another successful fireworks display. Officials said the weather cooperated and the rain held off for the event.

The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
