A Schuyler County man is facing a dozen charges—including felony assault of a law enforcement officer and a law enforcement animal—following an alleged January incident, according to court documents filed June 20.
Wayne Junior Gregory, charged in Case No. 25SY-CR00025-01, was formally arraigned in Schuyler County Circuit Court on 12 counts stemming from a Jan. 8 encounter with law enforcement. Among the most serious charges are second-degree assault of a special victim, armed criminal action, and aggravated fleeing from a traffic stop, all felonies.
According to the charges, Gregory used a vehicle in an attempt to strike a vehicle driven by Deputy Probst, endangering the officer and triggering multiple additional charges, including resisting arrest and careless and imprudent driving involving an accident.
Authorities say Gregory also attempted to injure Rooster, a law enforcement K-9, by using his vehicle to hit a car the animal was occupying under the control of an officer.
Other charges include operating a vehicle without a valid license, using another person’s license plates, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to register a vehicle, and not wearing a seat belt.
The pursuit began as law enforcement attempted to arrest Gregory on a felony warrant out of Adair County, according to the information filed by Prosecuting Attorney Lindsay G. Gravett.
The second-degree assault charge alone carries a penalty of five to 15 years in prison. Gregory remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
