LANCASTER, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Transportation’s Draft 2026–2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) includes a pair of major infrastructure projects in Schuyler County, addressing both highway resurfacing and bridge safety.
According to the draft plan, now open for public review through June 6, the largest project slated for Schuyler County is a resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation effort on U.S. Highway 136. The work will extend from near Downing at the Schuyler-Adair County line to U.S. Route 63 in Lancaster. The project also includes improvements to two bridges—A3070 and A3071—along the corridor.
Estimated at $5.63 million, the project is scheduled for contract award in September 2025, with construction expected to begin in 2026. The funding comes primarily from the National Highway Performance Program (NHPP), with additional support from state sources.
In addition to this funded construction project, MoDOT has placed a second Schuyler County bridge on its long-term scoping list. The project involves potential replacement or improvements to Bridge F0561, located 0.1 mile south of Route M near the Glenwood area. The structure crosses North Fork South Fabius River, and early estimates place the cost between $1 million and $2 million. Design and planning work for this project will continue through 2030.
These projects reflect MoDOT’s ongoing investment in maintaining rural infrastructure and ensuring safe and efficient travel across northeast Missouri.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the public comment period for the draft STIP, which remains open until June 6, 2025. Comments may be submitted by email to [email protected], by calling 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636), or through MoDOT’s website at modot.org.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission will review public input ahead of a final vote on the plan, expected July 9, 2025.
