Rams baseball is preparing for the future with a dedicated JV schedule and roster. These JV games allow for valuable game-time experience, in-game situational baseball, and live hitting.
The number of innings can vary depending on various factors, including time, weather, etc. The number of innings and runs allowed per inning are agreed upon by the coaches and umpires prior to the start of the JV game, which usually occurs upon the conclusion of the varsity game. Most of the time, the coaches follow a three outs or three runs format for each inning.
Schuyler baseball players have turned out in good numbers this year, with 22 players on the roster overall. 15 of those players see JV playing time, seven also get playing time on the varsity team

The Rams JV baseball team has played four games thus far in the season. They have two wins and two losses. Here is a breakdown of those games.
Friday, March 15 @ Canton Tigers
The JV left Canton with a 9-0 victory. Highlights of this game include Parker Dabney’s four RBIs on two hits. Parker Dabney singled in the second inning and the fourth inning, he scored two runs on each hit.
Caden Veatch, Damian Kelsall, and Cohan Meade all gained valuable game-time experience from the hill for the JV Rams. The trio threw a combined no-hitter during five scoreless innings of play. Veatch started the JV contest and threw for two innings, he faced six batters, striking out five. Meade took the mound in the third inning, he faced four batters, and struck out one. Kelsall finished the game for the JV Rams, facing five batters, walking two and striking out two.
Friday, March 22 vs. Northeast (Cairo) Bearcats
During the brutal playing conditions this evening, the JV Rams lost to the Bearcats, 4-0 over three innings.
The Bearcats threw a no-hitter versus the JV Rams. The only base runner of the game for the JV Rams came courtesy of a walk in the bottom of the third inning.
Brody Weaver and Mason Windy pitched for the JV Rams. Weaver pitched for two innings, he faced seven batters, allowed one hit and three runs (none of them earned), he walked one, and struck out three batters. Windy pitched the final inning of the game, he faced five batters, allowed one hit, one run (earned), one walk, and one strike out.
Monday, March 25 vs. Scotland County Tigers
The JV Rams tallied their second loss during this game, they could not keep up with the Scotland County Tigers. Please note, that due to lower roster numbers, the Tigers were pretty much sent their varsity team out on the field.
Parker Dabney, Kaden Snowbarger, and Caden Veatch all went one for two at the plate. Dabney accounted for the only JV Ram RBI of the game with a sacrifice grounder to third in the bottom of the second inning.
Damian Kelsall, Cohan Meade, and Veatch all took a turn on the mound. Pitching one inning each, in that order. Together the pitchers faced 19 batters over three innings, allowing six hits, and seven runs (six earned). They walked four batters and struck out five.
The game ended with a score of 4-7 in favor of the Tigers.
Thursday, March 28 vs. Green City Gophers
Like the varsity team, the JV evened up their record versus the Gophers.
Also like the varsity contest, it gave every appearance of being a tight game, as the first three innings were scoreless on both sides.
The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, scoring one run on a fly ball to center by Casey Starrett. The center fielder committed an error, allowing Starrett to safely reach first base, and scoring Marcus Miller, who had singled to lead off for the JV Rams.
Although the bottom of the fifth was not necessary, given that the JV Rams were up 1-0 at that point, both coaches agreed to finish out the inning. To start them off, Parker Dabney singled to short. On the next pitch, Veatch laid down a sacrifice bunt, resulting in an out, but advancing Parker Dabney to second base. A classic small ball move. Collin Oliver then singled on a line drive to right and Parker Dabney scored. Prestyn Dabney hit a fly ball to center, and reached on an error. During this at-bat Mason Windy (courtesy runner for catcher, Oliver) advanced to second, then stole third base. Miller walked, then Kelsall walked, pushing Windy off of third, and across the plate, Prestyn Dabney advanced to third, and Miller to second. During the next at-bat, Starrett saw two pitches before one got past the catcher, allowing Prestyn Dabney to score from third. This marked the third run of the inning, and the end of the game.
The JV Rams bested the Green City Gophers 4-0 over five innings, knotting up the JV record with two wins and two losses.
