Eugene Eagles End Ram Playoff Run With Come From Behind Victory

Schuyler County and Eugene battled on even terms until the Eagles pushed five runs across the plate during the bottom of the fifth inning, advancing to the Class 2 Baseball Championships at Springfield on June 1-2, 2026.
Schuyler County finished a fine season with a 22-4 overall record. Seniors Brody Bragg, Kaden Snowbarger, Mason Windy, Colin Oliver, Gage Brownell, Cohan Meade, Marcus Miller, Lathan Martin, Caden Veatch, Brody Weaver, and Huck Brown played their final games for Schuyler County.
Huck Brown laced a two out, two RBI second inning double for the game’s first scores. Lathan Martin and Colin Oliver scored for a 2-0 Schuyler County lead.
Eugene (21-10) countered with a single tally in the bottom of the second. Cohan Meade got the first two outs on a pop up to first baseman Gage Brownell and a strikeout.
Ethan Limbach was hit by a pitch. Lathan Martin relieved on the mound. Cohan Meade pitched four and 2/3 innings allowing six hits, four runs, five walks and struck out six batters.
Nolan Wilbers sashed a two out, run producing hit. More runs scored on an outfield error. Jeffrey Schulte drove in two more runs with a base hit. Eugene went to the top of the sixth inning up 6-2.
Alec Sommerer struck out the side in the top half of inning six. Hayden Kallenbach doubled with one out in the bottom of the sixth. A strikeout and a fly ball out to Gage Pauley ended the Eugene sixth inning with no scoring.
Two strikeouts and a ground ball to third base ended the game. Eugene advanced to play Portageville (28-8) in the Class 2 semifinal round at 10AM on Monday June 1, 2026 weather permitting.
Eugene scored six runs on nine hits and no errors. Jacob Bittle was 2-4 for the Eagles with a run scored. Jeffrey Schulte was 1-3 with two runs batted in. Alec Somerer was the winning pitcher in relief. Sommerer went 2 1/3 innings for Eugene striking out six batters with no runs hits or walks allowed.
Schuyler County scored two runs on five hits and one error. Mason Windy was 2-4 at bat for the Rams. Huck Brown was 1-3 with two RBI.
Lathan Martin pitched an inning and a third allowing three hits, two runs with one walk and one strikeout. “We had some great at bats,” Schuyler County coach Brad Moncrief said. ”They had a lot of opportunities to score runs, and we just didn’t capitalize.”
“We had runners on in almost every inning. To our team’s credit, we put pressure on their pitchers.”
