The Board of Directors of Lancaster Fire and Rescue have been working the last few months on starting a program for Junior Firefighters. Volunteers are the heart of the department, and fewer people are reaching out about joining, leaving the department with an aging crew.
This program is geared for those who are between the ages of 16 and 18 years old, but older people can also participate. The “Juniors” will be given instruction on use apparatus and equipment, as well as how to properly help fight a fire. They will be assigned a Senior member when attending an emergency call for guidance and education, but will be limited as to what duties can be performed.
At no time can a junior member operate the vehicles as a driver, enter a burning structure, or participate in a medical extrication from a vehicle.
This class in open to all those who live within the district boundaries of Lancaster Fire and Rescue Fire Protection District.
If you have an interest in joining as a volunteer, this would be an excellent way to start.
An informational meeting will be held Monday, January 08, 2024, at the station in Lancaster. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. Those who are interested in participating are encouraged to attend, and must bring at least one parent or guardian.
