Schuyler County Voters Approve Tax And Ambulance Questions; Local Races Decided Across County
SCHUYLER COUNTY — Schuyler County voters approved all four ballot questions in Tuesday’s General Municipal Election, while contested races for the Schuyler County Ambulance District, Greentop alderman and several city offices were also decided. Turnout was 498 ballots cast out of 2,701 registered voters, or 18.44 percent.
County voters approved the county tax question by a vote of 289 to 194. The measure asked whether Schuyler County should exempt eligible taxpayers from certain tax increases on their primary residences above the liability incurred during the initial credit year. Voters also approved the county local use tax question by a vote of 250 to 233.
Voters also approved Schuyler County Ambulance Question 1, which asked whether the ambulance district board should be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than 30 cents per $100 assessed valuation to support district operations. The measure passed 274 to 220.
The question for Consolidated Public Water Supply District No. 1 of Schuyler County also passed, with 243 yes votes to 111 no votes. The measure sought authority to issue $18 million in waterworks system revenue bonds for improvements and extensions to the district’s system.
In the Schuyler County Ambulance District Board Member District 3 race, Patricia Wheeler defeated David Crawford by a vote of 279 to 184.
Greentop voters selected two aldermen at large from a five-candidate field. Keaton Nelson received 26 votes and Ashley Robeson received 25 votes. Terry Mark received 22 votes, Martha Chapman 17 and Debbi McGee 13. Greentop voters also approved the city use tax question, 38 to 17.
In Downing, Alan Garrett was elected mayor with 29 votes. Daniel Beeler won the northward alderman seat with 20 votes, and Allen Middleton won the southward alderman seat with 10 votes. No votes were cast in the race for Downing marshal for the one-year unexpired term.
Queen City voters chose Dorothy McBee and Lewis McBee for the two available alderman seats. Dorothy McBee received 51 votes and Lewis McBee received 46. Dennis Crabtree received 23 votes.
In Lancaster, Kevin Buckallew was elected northward alderman with 35 votes, while Paul Reynolds was elected southward alderman with 24 votes.
In Glenwood, Jeremy Ferdig and Brenden Harris were elected trustees. Ferdig received 19 votes and Harris received 17.
Several other offices were listed as no-election races under Missouri law because the number of candidates filing matched the number of seats to be filled. Those candidates will assume office without an election. They include Justin Ray, Consolidated Public Water Supply District No. 1 board member, District 1; Pam Ford, Schuyler County Ambulance District board member, District 6; Mike McGoldrick and Dennis Starrett, Lancaster Fire & Rescue District board members; Carol Jean McLain and Michael Oberman, Schuyler County Nursing Home board members; and Jonathan Rider, Jill Moncrief and Marta Aeschliman, Schuyler R-1 School District board members.
